– So when we first meet your child, we’ll try to make them feel as welcome as we can, introduce them to the dental chair where they’ll have a little ride. So what to expect for your child’s first visit. When your child and you first come to our dental clinic, you’ll expect to see a little child’s play area there, where your child can feel comfortable while waiting. Your child can play around with a couple of books or some toys. While a child is preoccupied with that, we’ll get you to fill out a new patient form. Once that’s done, we’ll bring you in. My dental assistant and I will greet you in the room.
So when we first meet your child, we’ll try to make them feel as welcome as we can and then introduce them to the dental chair where they’ll have a little ride. At this point, some children might be a bit nervous. We try and help them up, let them press the buttons to operate the chair and see how high they can go in the chair, that sort of thing, just to get them used to the reclining of the chair and once they’re comfortable with that, we’ll have a look in their mouth.
Some children aren’t comfortable with getting on the chair ’cause it’s quite foreign to them. So we might get mom or dad to help and have a sit on there with them, that way they can sort of know that their mom and dad are there and it’s all safe. It’s just an easier way to get the child used to us. After that, we’ll count the teeth, check for any decays, that sort of thing, anything in the mouth, what problems they may have and how we can improve things as well.
